Tellico Riders “Story”
Tellico Riders was initiated and formed by Rich Grech.
The first meeting, with about 12 members, was held in October 2003. Meetings were held at Chota Recreation Center, the Yacht Club, Catino’s Restaurant, and the Tanasi Café, returning to the Yacht Club in 2007. Meetings are now held at 6 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month at the Yacht Club.
The club name and logo were selected by the members. In early summer of 2004, the members approved annual dues, collected from each motorcycle rider. The Club also set the fiscal year as August 1 to July 31. Dick Adamick was the first treasurer.
Rosie Ratcliffe volunteered to prepare a ride calendar for each month, and a Ride Committee was formed to organize rides for the following month. Bob Brandt was appointed as Ride Committee Chairman and Road Captain. Jim Best was appointed to be our Safety Director because he was an instructor of the Tennessee Motorcycle Safety Course. In October 2004 Ken and Ruth Mullens organized a “New Member Welcoming Committee.”
Our Club is a work in progress and we continually strive to improve our structure, purpose, and goals. In 2008 Jim Best, a former Director, created the “Tellico Riders Operating Plan“. This Plan sets forth the guidelines used by Tellico Riders. Also in 2008, Karen Brown, working with then director Dan Brazelton, developed and published this Tellico Riders Website.
Tellico Riders’ purpose is to organize and support group rides and activities related to motorcycling, support safe riding for its members, conduct membership meetings, and organize social gatherings and events in the motorcycle lifestyle for its members.
If you’re looking for a friendly, fun-loving group concerned with safety and respect for the community, then Tellico Riders is for you.
